How to make business travel more personal?
Business travel for some people can be a nightmare, with flight delays, bad weather, lost luggage, bad food choices and a long time away from home. But travelers who adopt trips by taking on some personal time may find that travel can be transformed into a perk.
While business travel is the same as the real vacation, there are ways you can turn your trip around to guarantee you can enjoy some time to yourself. Here are some you can do it:
Create downtime between your works: As a professional, it is imperative to work when you are not a work trip, but it is not necessary that you should only work and have no time to relax. You should create little downtime; you don’t have to work all day. You can take a short break and use that time to enjoy the local food and when going back to your hotel or service apartment take the scenic route so can at least see some of the spots around town or city.
Keep your sightseeing list short: When you’re on a business trip, you naturally don’t have much time to yourself. Research is the key when it comes to planning any travel, but when you have a little time, it’s even more vital. You don’t want to waste your valuable, limited time with unpredicted surprises. Before you go, look up all the cool things to do in that city. Make a list of each site you would like to see, whether it’s a museum, old buildings, beach or even restaurants and then prioritize according to how much time you have. You will find out that you have time to visit only two or three places from a massive list, so make sure you make this very short list count.
Choose your accommodation tactically: It’s easier to get in some downtime if you have serviced apartment is in the right area. Think about your work responsibility, the attractions you want to see, and then book your accommodation accordingly. It is ok if your work location is a little farther you can reach your work location on time, but you only have less time in between your work and downtime. So, make sure you choose accommodation that is near your chosen locations from the list.
Plan Meeting near your chosen Location: One of the best ways to do business today is on lunch. If you’re meeting with your clients or other business associates, get creative with your location. You could schedule meetings in the same neighborhood as your office, but maybe at a more attractive place that’s not just an office park. Perhaps you suggest they meet up for lunch, dinner or drinks in an active part of town or city to finish things up. In the meantime, you can do some sightseeing.
Of course, work is important it is a priority, but despite the challenges and pressure, business travelers still manage to slip in a little enjoyment whenever achievable and make their every trip enjoyable.
